Attachments
Attachments reads the attachments of the spaces you pick and shows where they take space: totals by space, type and month, the copies on one work item, and the work items that take the most. It reads Jira as you and changes nothing.
Before you start
Attachments is for Jira admins. It has no background checks: it reads only when you start a reading, and only the spaces you pick. The reading runs while the page is open.
Read spaces
- Under Read spaces, use Add a space to pick up to 5 spaces. A whole large site would take days of Jira points, so the tool reads a few spaces at a time.
- Select Check the cost. Jira counts the work items with attachments in those spaces, and the page gives the Jira points the reading will cost (estimated) and about how long it takes at your hourly points.
- Select Start reading. The page shows its progress, space by space. Keep the page open.
A reading costs about 2 to 4 Jira points for each work item with attachments (estimated), within the hourly budget for work a person starts. When this hour's points are spent, the reading waits and carries on after the time shown, with the page open. Stop here ends a reading where it got to, and what was read stays in the report. A paused reading has Carry on. Only one tab runs a reading at a time.
The report
Last reading shows, for the spaces read:
- attachments by space: work items, files, size, and the copies with their size;
- attachments by type (images, video, audio, text, PDF, Office documents, archives and other) and by the month they were added;
- the 100 work items whose attachments take the most space.
A copy is a file with the same size, type and name as another on the same work item, such as an image that an email reply adds again. Copies are counted in the files and the size, and shown apart.
The numbers come from Jira's search, made as you. Work items you cannot browse are not counted, and Jira does not search archived work items. Jira's own storage page gives the site's total, which can differ.
What Attachments does not do
It does not delete attachments. Open a work item in Jira to remove its attachments. Jira has no trash for attachments.
What it keeps
For the last reading, for 90 days: counts, sizes and Jira's ids, by space, type and month, and the 100 work items that take the most space. No file name and no work item text. Space names and work item keys are read from Jira when the page shows them.
