Craftline Hierarchy for Jira Cloud
Everything Craftline Hierarchy does
The full list, grouped by what you want to get done. Everything here is in the app today.
Build the tree
- Trees across projects Put issues from any project into one tree, as deep as you need. The same issue can sit in more than one place.
- Folders, memos and planning items Group rows in folders. Write notes as memos, with their past versions kept. Add planning items, with a name, an estimate and an owner, for work that has no issue yet.
- Hierarchies inside hierarchies Insert a whole hierarchy as a row of another one.
- Move things around Drag and drop, indent and outdent, cut, copy and paste, or paste as a child. Moving an issue under another parent, epic, group or sprint changes it in Jira.
- Create in place Make a new issue next to the focused one or under it, with its fields copied. Add existing issues by key or summary.
- Starting points Start from an empty tree, your own backlog, a release, a board, or the levels you work in, such as initiative, epic, story and sub-task. You can narrow a new hierarchy with JQL right in the create screen.
- Scratchpad Your own private hierarchy to collect rows in and paste them anywhere.
- Copy, archive and delete Copy a hierarchy with its rules, with their current results, or with neither, and clone its issues if you want. Archiving hides a hierarchy without deleting it.
Rules that keep it up to date
- Add issues From a JQL query, a board (all of it, its sprints, its backlog or its epics), a text search or another hierarchy.
- Children, sub-tasks and links Bring in sub-tasks, child issues at every level, the issues of each epic, and linked issues by link type, direction and depth.
- Filter Rules can filter the issues they bring in by JQL or by text.
- Sort and group Sort by any field, by board rank, or by any column, formulas included. Group by project, version, assignee, status, sprint, component, label, custom field option, Assets object and more.
- Your own changes inside rule results When the owner allows it, people can reorder, hide or add rows among what the rules placed. These changes are marked and listed, and each one can be undone.
- Temporary transforms Filter, sort, group or extend only what you see, without changing the hierarchy. These filters also work by tree query, field value or range, sprint or picked issues, keep the rows above each match, and can hide duplicates placed by rules. Use the built-in presets or save your own.
- Rule presets Save a set of rules and apply it somewhere else in one step.
- Live updates The tree refreshes when issues change in Jira.
Columns, totals and formulas
- Any Jira field Show it and edit it in place, moving between cells and rows with the keyboard.
- Totals Add up number and time fields over each branch. In formulas, you can also count everything below a row, only the leaves, or each issue once.
- Progress By time tracking, status, status category, story points, or weights of your own.
- Time and history Logged work by period and person, time in each status, cycle time, and when an issue first or last entered a status.
- Formulas Write your own with a full function library, shown as numbers, percentages, durations, dates, text or formatted text.
- App fields Typed fields that belong to a hierarchy (text, number, date, person or option), usable in columns, rules and formulas.
- Notes and outline columns Free-text notes per hierarchy, outline numbers such as 1.2.3, counts of children and leaves, and a column that says whether an issue matches a query.
- More columns Last comment, image thumbnails, linked issues, sub-tasks, Service Management request types and SLAs.
- Saved columns Keep formulas for yourself or share them, and start from a set of common calculations.
- Test run See what a write-back would change before it runs.
- Hidden issues in totals By default, totals only count what each person can see. Jira admins can let chosen number fields count the other issues too, as a total only and never for issues behind a security level.
Working in the grid
- Expand, collapse and focus Expand everything or down to a level, or focus on one branch.
- Find rows Search by text or by tree query (which can include JQL), step through matches, or show only the rows that match.
- Hide done Hide issues in the Done status category with one button.
- Panels The focused issue's details, the change history, duplicates, rules and write-backs, all from one Panels menu.
- Side by side and full screen Open two hierarchies next to each other and drag issues from one to the other.
- Jira actions on each row Open, transition, assign, comment, log work, watch, vote, add a child or delete. Anything else opens Jira's own issue dialog.
- Issue details as lines Show attachments, comments, worklogs, links and change history under each issue.
- Undo and redo Both work for moved rows and edited fields.
- Keyboard Most actions work from the keyboard. Press ? to see the shortcuts.
- Large trees The grid only draws the rows on screen and loads as you scroll, so big hierarchies stay quick.
Write-backs to Jira
- Values to fields Copy a total, a progress value, another field or a fixed value into a Jira field, on every issue, on parents only or on leaves only.
- Parent status Move a parent through its workflow when its children are all done, none started, or some started.
- Planning items to issues Turn planning items, folders and memos into real Jira issues.
- Shift dates Move up to five date fields by days, working days or weeks.
- Preview, run, undo Each write-back shows what would change first and runs as you, with your Jira permissions. Every run is listed with its changes, and you can undo it. Run them one by one or all together.
- Fields you can write Most system fields, comments, sprints and estimates, and custom fields of every common type.
Search and queries
- Jira search Find a hierarchy's issues anywhere in Jira with
issue in craftlineHierarchy("Roadmap"), optionally narrowed with a tree query. - Tree queries Ask for children, parents, descendants, ancestors, siblings, top-level rows or leaves, and combine them with JQL.
- Query mode Open a temporary hierarchy from a text search, issue keys, JQL or a tree query.
- Workflow condition and validator Allow a transition only for issues that are, or aren't, in a hierarchy.
- Query troubleshooting A page that explains how a hierarchy search is answered, for anyone who can view the hierarchy. Index counts are shown only to admins and the people who control it.
Views, export and sharing
- Views Save column sets and share them with everyone, groups, project roles or people. Seven starter views are included, and you choose which views each page offers.
- Export and print Excel (.xlsx), CSV or JSON, with outline levels, totals and formula values. Print the current view.
- Share links A link opens the same view, transforms, expanded rows, focus and search for anyone allowed to open the hierarchy.
Right where you work
- The app's own page Your hierarchies, the management page, your scratchpad and help, all in one place.
- Projects, issues and boards A project page that opens on the project's issues, an issue panel that shows where the issue sits, and a link from each board.
- Dashboards Put a hierarchy or its cumulative flow chart on a dashboard as a gadget.
- Management page Lists for recent, favorites, popular, mine, archived and needing attention, with filters and labels to keep many hierarchies in order.
Permissions
- Per hierarchy Give View, Edit, Automate or Control to everyone, groups, project roles or people.
- Jira's permissions always apply People only see and change the issues Jira lets them see and change. The details of an issue someone can't open are never shown to them.
- App access Choose who can use the app, who can create hierarchies, and which projects show it.
- Automation permissions Decide who may set up rules, set up write-backs, run them, and manage shared columns, in one table.
Administration
- Settings in Jira's admin area The app's settings are on one page there, with a grouped menu.
- App admins Let people who aren't Jira admins look after the app's settings.
- Setup guide and help A short guide for new sites, a welcome page, and help that opens every settings tool.
- Limits, calendar and defaults Rule limits, the working calendar for working-day math, and the default hierarchy and views for each page.
- Backup and restore Back up everything, restore on the same site, or move to another site.
- Maintenance Leftovers from deleted hierarchies are cleared every day, and so is history older than a year. Admins can choose to keep the old history.
- Support bundle A file with the app's settings, versions, counts and recent errors to send us when something goes wrong.
- Licensing A license key per site, 30-day trials, and a reminder two weeks before a trial ends.
In your language
- Eight languages English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Hindi. The app follows each person's Jira language.
- Looks like Jira Light and dark themes follow your site, and the controls work like Jira's own.
- Accessible Screen readers get a proper tree grid, focus is always visible, and high contrast mode is supported.
Works with
- Jira Software Boards, sprints, epics and rank.
- Parent and Team fields From Jira's advanced planning.
- Jira Service Management Request types and SLAs in columns.
- Assets Objects shown by name and usable for grouping.
- Other apps' fields Values from other apps' fields are shown by name, and simple ones can be edited.
- Rovo Describe the hierarchy you want in plain words. The Hierarchy helper agent suggests the rules and adds them once you confirm, and can outline part of a tree for Rovo to summarize.
